Curtis Van Dam, a fifth-grade teacher at Sioux Center Christian School who also coached boys' basketball, pleaded guilty in federal court on June 11, 2018, to one count of sexual exploitation of a child and was sentenced on Sept. 12, 2018, to 15 years in federal prison. He later pleaded guilty in Sioux County District Court to sexual abuse and sexual exploitation by a school employee involving male students, and on Jan. 11, 2019, was sentenced to 60 years, consecutive to the federal term.
